This, ladies and gentleman, is a cautionary tale. I feel I need to share my experience to stop it happening to everyone else, as it took me a good few days to get over it, and almost ruined the start of my holiday!
For anyone who suffers from anxiety, stress or nerves, look away now. I am unfortunately one of those people, and last year’s holiday began with my cortisol levels shooting into the stratosphere, and the need for several cocktails before I could even start to calm down. The cocktails would have been consumed anyway, let’s face it, but they were certainly needed.
This all started as I was patiently waiting at my local coach station for my bus to the airport. I’d decided to travel from the capital, as I managed to find a cheaper flight, and the cost of transport down there combined still came up to cheaper than a flight from my regional airport. So that I am, sat with takeaway coffee in hand, suitcase at the side of me, all ready for my jaunt to the sun.
Half an hour passes.
Panic sets in.
My bus did not turn up.
Thankfully, my bus company were extremely apologetic, and I was put on a later service which arrived before my flight, albeit considerably later than planned. It’s lucky I am extremely paranoid about such things happening and I booked onto a coach that would get me to the airport far sooner than needed.
Can you imagine what would have happened if there wasn’t another bus leaving from my station? I shudder at the thought. In fact, it’s almost enough to drive me to more cocktails.
The worry of missing a flight due to a problem with transport is a common one, but ever since my drama, I’ve been converted to driving myself to the terminal, with plenty of time to spare. Of course, things can go wrong whatever mode of transport you choose, but with the control in my hands and not someone else’s, I know I’m much more likely to start my break with everything as it should be. I now regularly book airport parking, and not only do I know I’m getting a service that is not only convenient and reliable, but the cost usually works out less. Win-win all-round basically.
Last month I used Heathrow parking with BCP, and cannot fault the service I received. My holiday began without the major drama of last year, and I even managed to stop en-route for a pre-holiday coffee and muffin, with a smile on my face and no tears.
No holiday should begin with ‘will I ever get to the airport’, and the whole shebang is meant to be enjoyed. Take my advice and go down the do it yourself route, trust me, waiting for a bus that may not turn up is no fun!
